“Many ODIHR recommendations remain thus to be addressed, including on the citizens’ right of access to electoral information, oversight of campaign finance, effective remedies with regards to electoral violations, and preventing of conflicts of interest in election administration. In addition, despite previous ODIHR recommendations, the law does still not allow citizen observation.”

“Den OSZE Verpflichtungen enstprechend hat die Ständige Vertretung der Republik Österreich bei der OSZE das Büro für demokratische Institutionen und Menschenrechte (Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights – ODIHR) der Organisation für Sicherheit und Zusammenarbeit in Europa (OSZE) eingeladen, die für den 25. April 2010 angesetzte Bundespräsidentenwahl zu beobachten. Auf der Grundlage der Empfehlung einer Vorabmission zur Bewertung des benötigten Wahlbeobachtungsformats (Needs Assessment Mission – NAM) entsandte das OSZE/ODIHR eine Wahlbewertungsmission (Election Assessment Mission – EAM) für diese Wahl.”
