IFES Symposium on AI & Disinformation

13 Sep , 2024

Prague, 13 September 2024: The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), the Regional Europe Office organised a Symposium on “AI, Disinformation, Coordination: Lessons from Europe’s 2024 Elections in Countering Influence Operations” in Prague.

Building on the recently published paper by IFES and the German Marshall Fund’s Alliance for Securing Democracy, this symposium brought together democratic actors from across the region and from a variety of sectors, including election management bodies, international NGOs, and private sector technology firms to engage in peer exchange and learning, and equip these stakeholders with a better understanding of the available approaches their peers have taken to bolster democratic resilience against these threats.

The first panel focused on the 2024 European Parliament Elections to debrief on lessons learned on AI, disinformation and coordination. Armin Rabitsch from Election-Watch.EU was elaborating on the findings of the Election-Watch.EU Election Assessment Mission and referenced the recently published joint-EPD / Election-Watch.EU practitioner paper on the EU’s AI Act Impact on Electoral Processes.
