Vienna, 20 April 2022: wahlbeobachtung.org is once again initiating a panel discussion with representatives of all parties represented in Parliament to discuss possible electoral reforms. This event, co-organised with the Parliament Directorate, follows the successful electoral reform panel discussion event at Parliament in September 2018.
The poll workers nominated by the campaigning parties are a central part of election administration in Austria. Due to the popularity of postal voting and the increasing allocation of preferential votes, the challenges for the election officers have increased in terms of time. Proceedings before the Constitutional Court and the ordinary courts have shown possible legal consequences. The result is recruitment problems.
wahlbeobachtung.org, together with the Vienna Center for Electoral Research (VieCER) of the University of Vienna, conducted an online survey among more than 800 election officers and other people involved in the election process between October and December 2019. What motivates election officers? How do you perceive the election process and what suggestions for improvement do you have? The results of this survey are to be presented at this event on 2 May 2022 at 4 p.m. and discussed with the involvement of the parliamentary groups and representatives from the relevant ministries.
A registration via the Parliament website is required. The event is held in German language.
